Recently, Sound Physicians Clinical Operations leaders, Kristi Frantz, MSS, and Marina Farah, MD, FHM, MHA, were invited panelists at the Healthcare Management Academy's Chief Nursing Office Forum held in Chicago, Illinois.

Based on their expertise in clinical workflow and Lean healthcare strategies, the team was selected to present on Sound Physicians' initiatives to drive improvements in inpatient care.

The presentation, "Innovative Clinical Models of Operation and the Role of Hospitalist RN", explored how Sound's hospitalist physicians and RNs use redesigned processes to reduce variance and cost while simultaneously improving the quality of inpatient care. Data was shared from the SoundImpact clinical models of operation demonstrating substantial operational gains from its Lean healthcare processes and continuous improvement strategies. Sound Physicians' initiatives focus on high-impact diagnoses, core measures, readmissions management, patient satisfaction, best practice guidelines and hospitalist decision units.

Farah and Frantz earned Lean Healthcare Certification through the University of Michigan's College of Engineering. The UM curriculum is taught by Lean healthcare specialists and physician experts who apply the methodology and tools of the legendary Toyota Production System (TPS) in the healthcare setting.
