Sleep Country USA Foster Kids Program Wraps Up 2009 with 8,581 Gifts
Annual Drive Brings Year-end Totals to 87,785; Providing Important Items, Support and Resources for Area's 26,000 Foster Children and Their Families
SEATTLE, WA, January 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Putting a big red bow on this year's Sleep Country USA Foster Kids program would be an apt way to wrap up the company's persistence, dedication and drive to make 2009's campaigns successful, despite one of the worst economic recessions of our time. The company's committed advertising, public relations and marketing efforts geared at generating material donations during drives and cash during its annual Pajama Bowls resulted in more than 87,785 donations of important items, like clothing, shoes, coats, school supplies, and gifts, as well as $77,000 in cash for area foster children.
The Northwest's largest seller of premium mattresses, Sleep Country USA has become nationally famous for its five year-old foster kid's program that provides donations to sixteen foster organization partners in Washington and Oregon. Most recently, the company's Secret Santa Toy Drive obtained 8,581 donations from individuals and businesses. The drive strove to make foster children's holiday wishes come true and most importantly, provide foster families with the extras they need during the season of giving.
"I'm incredibly proud of our company and community for overcoming economic constraints to support a program that shapes the future of our next generation," said Terry Horsley, vice president of brand strategy for Sleep Country USA. "Foster children face setbacks that few can imagine. Knowing they are cared for and considered by their peers and community helps them better navigate these setbacks. Whether it's a new pair of pajamas to make nighttime in a new home easier, shoes that fit properly, a warm coat for rainy months, school supplies on the first day of school, or a new toy on Christmas morning - it's something that says 'We are thinking about you and want you to do well.'"
"Ongoing assistance from companies like Sleep Country USA makes it possible for us to meet the ever-increasing needs of local foster children," said Jennifer Myrick, Capital Kids Connection. "During hard economic times, everyone is affected, even foster families. The loss of a job or reduction in income makes it incredibly difficult to provide for the children in their care. Getting support from the community delivers an encouraging boost and allows foster parents to focus their energy on responding to their children's other needs."
Sleep Country USA kicked off its 2010 Foster Kids Program with the Pajama Drive on January 4th. Donations of new pajamas will be accepted at any of the company's more than 70 stores throughout the region until February 14th. The company also established an avenue for non-shoppers to donate cash online at www.sleepcountry.com; click on "community" then "donate to foster kids" and let the Sleep Country USA team do the shopping on your behalf.
