Training Agency Welcomed
The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) welcomes the State Government's decision to create a new Department of Training and Workforce Development.
PERTH, AUSTRALIA, September 02, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Commenting on the initiative, CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith said: "This puts training front and centre as a critical issue, with the focus and support it warrants.
"Up-skilling, training and workforce planning are vital to the State's economic prosperity, and a dedicated agency will ensure that training requirements are met more effectively today and into the future."
According to CME's State Growth Outlook Study released earlier this year, substantial growth in Western Australia is projected to return in the medium to long term, and there are already clear indications of recovery across the resources industry.
"The current environment is the ideal time for anyone considering a career in the resources sector to gain the skills that will assist them in taking advantage of opportunities when growth returns. The establishment of a Department of Training and Workforce Development will undoubtedly assist this process."
Earlier this year CME produced a publication, Building Tomorrow's Workforce Today, that outlined the WA resources sector's commitment to training.
