Seahawks to Fish and Raise Funds for Local Special Needs Children
Fundraiser will be held at team's new waterfront facility

RENTON, WA, March 28, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 3rd Annual Seahawks Fish & Feast Fundraiser supporting the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation will be hosted at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Sunday, May 17 the team announced today.

The Seahawks players and coaches will host disabled and disadvantaged children from Renton for a morning of fishing followed by a lunch, live entertainment and an auction featuring a variety of local and authentic prizes.

Last year, the Seahawks helped raise $25,000 for the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation. Clay Dyer, C.A.S.T. National Spokesperson and professional fisherman, will also participate this year.

"We all had a great time, and it was especially good for our daughter and her soon-to-be step-brother," said a local father of a severely disabled daughter. "Her step-brother loves to fish, and she loves to be out on the water, so he now sees "going fishing" is something they can do together. It brings out some of his sweet and protective nature - rare moments for a twelve-year-old boy."

The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation established in 1991, provides disabled and disadvantaged children an opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. The Foundation, based in Renton, takes over 12,000 children fishing each year. This program serves as a recreational resource to children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, cognitive disorders, those on the Autistic Spectrum, and more.

According to a local Occupational Therapist, "This program supports leisure involvement and mastery in a motivating and socially simulating task and environment. The ability for a child to learn a new skill and have a sense of achievement is some of the best therapy that a child can receive. It can help to open the doorway to many other skill sets and mastery throughout a child's activities of daily living as it promotes self-esteem and confidence through new learning paths and social acceptance."

Fundraising is a critical part of support for the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation. This year's sponsorship packages include a combination of fishing excursion tickets, VIP Seahawks 2009 Training Camp Experience tickets, VIP Seahawks 2009 Regular Season Game Experience tickets, and much more.
