Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Implements Simplifi 797 to Help with USP Chapter 797 Compliance
Software helps hospital pharmacy be in compliance with new compounding guidelines

/Washington News Articles/ - BELLEVUE, WA, September 14, 2008 -- Pharmacy OneSource, Inc., software as a service provider to more than 1,200 hospitals in the United States, announced today that Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has adopted Simplifi 797 to simplify meeting all of the requirements of USP Chapter _797_ for compounding sites throughout the hospital.

Before the implementation of Simplifi 797, all of the documentation for Lutheran General with regards to competencies, batch preparation, task documentation and other routine tasks were very time consuming and not very efficient.

"We were able to use the 'processes' functionality of Simplifi 797 to convert our pre-pack compounding service to a paperless system," said Chris Kutza, Pharmacy Manager at Lutheran General Hospital. "We are now able to easily search lot numbers and sterility test results for every batch we make. The final result is safer patient care."

Simplifi 797 is a web-based application that automates, integrates and streamlines the quality activities and documentation required to meet USP's Chapter 797 on compounding sterile preparations. Simplifi 797 manages task scheduling and monitoring and automates the reporting of exceptions and compliance. The software also helps keep track of pharmacy staff competencies.

"With over 35 technicians to keep track of, it was overwhelming to keep track of who needed a competency and they were often missed," said Geri Anderson, Pharmacy Technical Services Manager for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. "Now after loading them into the system it is a pleasure. The technicians are notified by e-mail, they can complete a competency test online and with a few clicks, the documentation is complete."
